Ferengi Rules of Acquisition for Freelance Profit!

Ferengi Rules of Acquisition for Freelance Profit!

Welcome space cadet. If you have come to learn to be profitable, you are at the right place. We at the Ferengi Alliance know about profit!

For the right price, I, Yanog, will share some of my Ferengi Rules of Acquisition for Freelance Web Developer Success (patent pending, copyright implied). By reading this far you have agreed to my binding contract of three strips of latinum or one thumbs up. Excellent, I knew you would.

Rule 15 - "Dead men close no deals"

Take care of yourself and take care of your health. Because hey, who is more important than number one? (And by number one I mean me, Yanog).

This means taking breaks when necessary and looking after your own health. Sometimes this may mean working a day job while you get your freelance career going. It is important to keep food on the table and a roof over your head.

Remember, you need to survive to win.

Rule 34 & 35 - "War is good for business", "Peace is good for business"

When times are slow, it's a good time for your potential clients to invest in their business.

Clients will have more time to focus on organizing content for their new website. Remind them a new or improved website is a great way to get customers to know about their business and more profit.

When business is good, it's a good time for your potential clients to invest in their business.

With some good profits coming in, let them know it's the right time to redirect it back into their business. Do not lose momentum.

It is always the right time for latinum.

Rules 66 - "Someone's always got bigger ears"

There is always a bigger fish and so it is important to not compete head to head. This is the time to find your niche. Who doesn't want me, Yanog, on their team?

Many of the most successful Ferengi are generalists with a niche. This is called T-shaped skills. Your niche becomes your unique selling point. Your general skills allow you to handle any clients that come your way.

In the past year, I pivoted my niche to web accessibility and built a great client portfolio because of it. As the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition 92 states:

"There are many paths to profit", and accessibility brings more clients, which brings more profits!

Rule 240- "Time, like latinum, is a highly limited commodity"

If someone can do it better, cheap, or faster than you, hire them. Don't be afraid to hire out to someone who can do it better than you. Especially if they charge less latinum than you. This is called scaling your business.

It can be anything from housework to designing logos. Sometimes you need to share your profits to make more PROFITS!!!

Rule 151 - "Even when you're a customer, sell yourself"

I know you hoomans don't know much about sales, but remember, everyone is an opportunity for more profits. Tell everyone what you do. You are your own best promoter. As rule 109 says

"Dignity and an empty sack is worth the sack.", and no one likes a sack. Especially a hooman sack.

That's it for today space cadets. Remember, leave a thumbs up or three strips of latinum.
